Van Morrison - Ring Worm/You Say France And I... →
In 1968, Van Morrison wanted to get out of his recording contract with Bang Records but he was contracted to deliver 31 remaining tracks. He knocked out all 31 in hilariously bad fashion and delivered them to Bang to fulfill his contract obligation. Here are three of them ‘Ring Worm’, ‘You Say France And I Whistle’ and ‘Want A Danish’… amazing.

Need motivation?
My friend @JiffyJen sits in an office facing a pillar. It’s not a view that inspires huge levels of motivation and the other day she mentioned to me that she thought her pillar was prime for a cheesy motivational poster. As we discussed it we got onto the idea of making a series of rubbish motivational posters where, even the posters themselves couldn’t be bothered any more. So I...

Everything old is new again
Recently I sat down and listened to some music. I have music on all the time but it occured to me how long it had been since i’d actually stopped and listened. My life has been a busy place of late. I decided it was time I allowed proper ‘listening’ time back into my life. I set about upgrading my living room setup to allow me to fill the room with sound. After much consideration I settled...

Don't worry, be happy...
In my previous job I introduced a rule into the studio, the GrumpyHat™. Now, the purpose of the GrumpyHat™ was simple, it was there to nip negativity in the bud. I’m lucky that I’ve always worked in a fun and creative environment, with colleagues I consider friends and it’s a pleasure to work with them. However, everyone has those days. The days when you unleash fury into Adobes...

So I just brought the brushes app for the iPad. I should point out right now I’m not very good at drawing, but I wanted to give it a try (and thought the kids would like it). So my friend Ben says “Draw a picture of me!” so…er…. here it is! For the record I was umming and ahhinh between Brushes and Sketchbook Pro but the deal-breaker for me was the ability to...

I mentioned to my friend Rich that my boys were enjoying singing along to ‘A darkness now is coming’, one of the tracks from his band Hope and Social’s latest album. They decided they wanted to record it for him, so here it is. hope you like it Rich! 4 days and a finger...
So, as those of you who follow me on Twitter will already know, this week I bought an iPad. In the four days that have followed I’ve fallen in love with it. This isn’t a post to prompt inevitible confrontation between those that like it and those that don’t. I can see how the iPad wouldn’t be right for everyone, this is about why it’s right for me. I’ve been...

Make someone smile—Part 2
This is the second part of this entry. If you’ve not already read it, be sure to go and read Part 1 first… So having sent a very excited friend home with her new camera I was quite looking forward to hearing what she had to say about the hidden message on the card once she’d discovered it. I woke up the following day to find a number of emails from @TinyNat sitting in my inbox....

Make someone smile—Part 1
For quite some time now my colleagues and I have championed what we call ‘delighters’. Little unexpected touches that can make a huge difference to your customer’s experience. Of course, it’s important you get the basic stuff right but often a little effort to throw in a delighter here and there is what’ll lead to them remembering you in a positive light. ...

Embrace shitness...
I don’t mind admitting that I’m a perfectionist. Obsessively so it could be said. That said, a lot of the time it’s not what’s right about something that makes it magical but what isn’t. Today I’ve been listening to a lot of old classic Soul and Motown records. I was brought up listening to this music and I love it. The old early Motown equipment was...

Different medium, same old problems
In this digital age so much has changed about the way we document our lives. When I was younger I used to have books of negatives, prints, little boxes of slides etc. Both photos I’d taken and developed and those that my dad had taken and developed when he was the same age. Some of the photos were rubbish. In fact a LOT of them were rubbish but I kept them all the same because in the days of...

Fat fingers...
Almost without exception I always mis-type ‘from’ as ‘form’ except in specific circumstances such as this where I’m trying to explain that point. In those situations I never mis-type. Is it because I’m concentrating more on the words? Or am I just a fat-fingered fool who chooses those specific moments to get it right, thus making a mockery of the entire point...

Forget what you know...
It’s funny how sometimes life can throw things in your direction when you least expect it. The last few years have been, shall we say ‘interesting’ for me. Pretty much every aspect of who I considered myself to be was affected. Work was my constant. It was where I went to take a break from every other aspect of my life. In October of 2009, as I willed the worst year of my life...
